Heritage Hotel, Ao Nang

Independant Review

The visitor's first impression of this hotel is that it has seen better days. The lobby sofas are somewhat threadbare and the ubiquitious rattan furniture looks dull and past its retirement date. The breakfast restaurant next to the lobby area isn't particularly appealing either, as it resembles a works canteen more than a resort eatery - the decor is utlitarian, and the space echoes with kitchen noise and the voices of all the people in the lobby. Visitors with hangovers are advised to take their breakfast on the verandah outside the main breakfast area, in order to escape the clatter and noise. This verandah is thankfully a relatively quiet and pleasant place in which to breakfast, but not many guests eat dinner in the resort's unattractive restaurant, preferring instead to try one of the myriad eateries within easy walking distance of this centrally-located resort.

While the first impression the hotel gives is poor, it makes up a lot of ground on further inspection. People with prams or mobility problems will appreciate the lifts, and the resort's rooms are immaculate, innocuously decorated and very well presented. The hotels' swimming pool is nothing to write home about, surrounded as it is on all sides by buildings, some of which are rather shabby. As a place to cool off after a hot day out it is, however, perfectly adequate. It is equipped with enough loungers, tightly paked around the small pool, to go round. Unfortunately it is also equipped with four giant fish water spouts, which nobody will think look remotely Asian, authentic or in good taste. The pool is not a place to spend all day, but is OK for a couple of hours.

'Superior' and 'Deluxe' Rooms

These room types are exactly the same, except that the Deluxe rooms have slightly better seaviews. None of the rooms have good seaviews, so there isn't much point in paying extra for a Deluxe room. The mountain views from some of the high-floor Superiors is pretty good and, bearing in mind the presence of the lift, the visitor is recommended to go for a mountain-facing Superior room. If you book on this site, we'll request one of the best rooms for you - we know which ones have the best views, as we are based here in Ao Nang. These mountain views are better than the seviews, as the resort isn't close enough to the sea to get good seaviews. Both room types have the option to connect two adjacent rooms, making them a good family choice. All rooms in this resort are immaculate, spotlessly clean and innocuously decorated - while they won't wow anybody, they won't upset anybody either.

The above rates are net per room per night and inclusive of all taxes and charges. An American breakfast costs THB 300 per person extra.
