Sheraton Resort

The Sheraton is is located in Klong Muang, 15 miunutes drive from Ao Nang. Some people will like Klong Muang, others will loath it, click here for more on Klong Muang.

For couples, the nearby Tubkaek and Phulay Bay are good hideaway romance choices, while the Golden Beach in nearby Ao Nang is the place for those after a livelier destination. The Cha Wan in Ao Nang is a good couples' compromise when one partner wants a hideaway and the other a lively destination. For families with young children the Sheraon has considerable appeal, but older children will quickly bore here, as there is nothing to do in the immediate vicinity of the resort.

The Sheraton offers more space and more comprehensive facilities than any of the other 4 star resorts on any of Klong Muang's three beaches, or indeed than of any 4 star resort we can think of in Krabi Province. In Thailand, no-one can actually own any stretch of beach, but in the case of the Sheraton, there are no adjacent hotels and local fishermen respect the resort's privacy, turning the Sheraron’s into a virtually private beach.

A good beach it is too – the sunsets aren’t quite as spectacular as they are from nearby Tubkaek beach, but the beach is good for swimming at all tide levels, is covered with a broad strip of fairly fine sand and is flanked by lots of shady trees and lots and lots of space for children to run around in. This is the only 4 star resort we know of in Krabi Province that could host an 11-a-side football match.

Several scenes from the recent Hollywood movie“Hangover II” were filmed inside this Sheraton. The filmcrew was accommodated here during shooting, while the movie stars were given a roof over their heads and much more in the nearby and über-exclusive Phulay Bay Resort.

The Sheraton offers free wireless internet in the lobby, tennis courts, a large Kids Club, a huge children's pool, a PADI certified scuba dive center, a live band in the evenings, a piano bar, muliple restaurants and further bars.

While the facilities are perfectly suited to families with smaller children, the resort isn’t a good choice for a long stay for families with older children, who will rapidly bore of Klong Muang. The architecture is boring, consisting of large concrete buildings, each housing many rooms. The rooms are competently comfortable without being in any way inspiring.

The Sheraton offers 3 restaurants, serving Thai, international, mediteranean, Italian and Indian cuisine. One of the bars plays host to a nightly Filippino live band. The beachfront lawn, studded with lofty casuarina trees, is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon. There is ample room for the children to play and run around within sight of their parents. The Sheration enjoys fully 1.8 kilometers of broad, sandy beach, of which one half is good for swimming both at low and high tides. One of the swimming pools is very large and offers a swim-up bar with the submerged bar stools that were de rigeur when this older resort was built.

The rooms at the Sheraton are equipped with all the modern facilities you might expect, including a flatscreen TV and a coffeemaker. Each room comes with a balcony, which is adequate for a smoke and a cup of tea, but the chairs are not comfortable and the balconies are not big enough to relax on (except those belonging to the Executive Suites). The rooms themselves are uninspiring and are not the reason to come and stay here. The shared facilities are the reasons to come here - this resort offers more facilities and way more space than any other in the vicinity.

We recommend the Superior, which is competitively priced if rather uninspiring.

The Deluxe Rooms overlook the mangrove forest which lines the beach. These are virtually identical to the Superior Rooms, the only significant difference being a separate shower cubicle.

At about a THB 1,000 price difference per night, we recommend the Superior rather than the Deluxe rooms.

Ocean Facing Premium

These have partial seaviews. We especially recommend the 3rd floor rooms. Some of the building offer better views than others.

As a local agency we can request one of the rooms with a view, as we know whuch ones they are. For a room with a view, please click the "Check Availabilty" button further down this page.

If your idea of holiday bliss is to waltz into the club lounge cocking a snoot at the occupants of inferior room types (who aren’t allowed in), then this is the room type for you, as the only significant ‘benefit’ of staying in a Club room is to be admitted to the club lounge. Really, don’t bother.

Executive Suite

These large suites are innocuously decorated in the standard sit-on-the-fence “upset no-one, wow no-one” Sheraton style. They benefit from large, private balconies equipped with proper sun-loungers.

One of these is an excellent option for a couple with one or two small children. Connecting room possibilities make these a good place for a larger family to stay. If you have small children and want  to relax in a comfortable place where the children have proper pools to play in and space to run around in, you could do a lot worse than book one of these.

Quite why they're called Executive Suites is a mystery, as an occupant wearing a suit can not be imagined - most executives on holiday would rather submit to a lengthy colonic irrigation than don pin-stripes and tie.

The above rates are net per room per night and inclusive of all taxes and charges, and breakfast for 2 people.
